   Sounds like they don’t like the self promotion of “”giovanni gallucci | social media expert” and link the credit to http://www.gallucci.net. ” in your description, like you’re “selling yourself”

   Just my take on it.

   Dude that sucks….

   I have some other friends who had their account terminated without warning last year. Hundreds of photos lost and then the very next day their back-up computer was stolen from their apartment which meant they lost years of work completely.

   Devastating, although they are back now: http://flickr.com/people/tetheredto/ (uhm, NSFW btw)

   (not really related to you, unless there’s something I don’t know about!!) The issue Flickr supposedly had (and this is just speculation as they never once returned any emails) was with nudity, etc. Strangely enough, the girls had actually emailed Flickr a couple of days before the account deletion and had gotten the okay on their photos.

   And then they were deleted. Bullshit much?

   Long story short, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE Flickr – be sure you have back-ups. Things seem to get lost in the ether with no explanation sadly…

   And… make sure you got good backups.

   I personally didn’t figure out flickr so they probably would have booted me after one post as I always promote xTrain!

   That’s rough… You better backup your photos quick in case they try to screw with you. I personally don’t trust any photo sharing site that threatens to delete photos for ANY reason. It is almost like blackmail! Like the sites that will delete your account if you don’t buy something. That is BS in my opinion. I’ve actually never had a Flickr account before, but I didn’t think they did this type of thing. I have accounts on Shutterfly and Pixamo- I feel my photos are safe with them.

   I’ve been using Flickr for about a week and been in receipt of some really nasty comments from supposed volunteers and “experts”. Despite the fact that I broke no rules and my posts were polite and humorous threads were closed for no given reason. I feel humiliated.

I was really polite and nice to these people, they’re impossible to work with. “Sounds like that person just likes to stir the pot. I “volunteer” to verballly assault that person if it comes back ever!!!! ” I’m a pregnant woman, married and really anything but the criticism received. The episode actually had me in tears. Especially take into consideration Mel who claimed to be a social worker and isn’t. She emailed me and told me to go to the beginners site only to get this treatment. It’s sinister. I also received death threats, I’ve only been on the site a week. These were my posts. I’d rather remain anon, hope that’s okay by you.

   After posting this thread, a number of impersonations appeared that insinuate that my level of English is poor or childish. I don’t think it is.

   I attempted to contact the member of staff concerned via a comment on one of her photographs asking her to give a more coherent reason via flickr mail, which she deleted. She did not contact me with a reason. Is there something that’s just not getting through to me? I feel utterly dejected by the experience.

Why am I being treated like a trouble causer when I am the one who is in receipt of aggressive and derogatory commentary?

   Is there something that’s just not getting through to me?

   The people who hang out in N&L are generally nice people who are just here to share our experiences as we learn photography. We are all hobbyist here who share the same love of what we do. Are you even into photography at all or simply doing some misguided research thinking you can target flickr for your project?

   If you are trying to break into the hobby and are just socially awkward, then by all means hang out and learn with us. We are all a bit weird here. If you are here for any other reason FlickrCentral is that way –> But be warned, they are not nearly as nice there.

   I see why Heather closed the thread. It went in circles and it was completely ridiculous. You were not clear or upfront about what you wanted and flickr is not the place to find what your looking for. Talk to your client and see what they want. Essentially you were poling members to get information from them about another project with companies “like flickr”. Which is NOT cool to do considering that would be like someone going to McDonalds and asking questions about Burger King.
   Flickr is a picture sharing community where anyone with a camera and a computer can upload their pictures to share with the world, this includes children. This does not make anyone an expert or volunteer. The folks who administer the groups could be considered volunteers because they either created the group or were asked to help or sometimes the job falls into someones lap. Again this is open for anyone to do, it’s like starting a club, even The Little Rascals had one.
   This group is called new and learning because we are learning to edit and take pictures and learning about cameras and lighting etc.
   That does not mean we are the answer givers to any problem that goes on in the flickr community. We don’t work for flickr, they just let us play here and they host our pictures.
   Your topic is not about this group nor do we want any overflow problems from the rest of the flickr community to invade here. That is what the help forum is for.
   Since Heather closed it, I would say it’s for good reason and I trust her judgment considering she is one of the founders of flickr.

   If you really must know what a volunteer is…please go look it up in a dictionary. Many people have given examples of what a volunteer is and you just do not like the answers you have been given. I really don’t think you will be happy unless you hear what you want to hear.
   New and Learning is not a group that debates over silly topics. We have fun here and enjoy each others love for photography. We don’t play silly games with each other. Since you have NO photos perhaps you should just move on to ask your silly questions elsewhere.
   The only questions we answer in here are photography related.

And lots of people have tried to help you with the answer that there is no ‘flickr volunteers’. What people are taking offence to is the way that you are responding to them.    It seems they tried their best to understand your initial query about volunteers. And then they tried their best to answer, but failed to give you the clarification you were wanting. You frustrated them — that’s what happened. When people get frustrated (agitated) some just really get smart-alecky. The thread was closed (and rightly so) because it could have gotten more out of control and a lot nastier.

   Now about volunteers on Flickr… I’ve been using Flickr for almost two years. I know of no such thing. There is no official Flickr Volunteer.

   Now, everybody, let’s all just calm down and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

   Btw, I really, really hope you’re not just trolling…
