When bloggers Say No to a Simple Chat

DeniedWhen Wired magazine writer Fred Vogelstein set out to write a story
about a Silicon Valley blogger, Mike arrington, he figured he would do
what virtually every professional journalist does—interview key people,
either face to face or by telephone. It's the acid-tested methodology
of reporters everywhere. but in this case, simply by making the request
that newspaper and magazine scribes make thousands of times a day,
Vogelstein found himself in the middle of a controversy that's
challenging the utility, the accuracy and the very morality of the
real-time interview.

Here is what happened to Vogelstein when he sought his interviews.
First, blog entrepreneur Jason Calacanis told him he would not speak to
him, but answer questions only by e-mail, something Vogelstein wouldn't
agree to. Then, blogging pioneer Dave Winer told him he would not be
interviewed by phone. He suggested that Vogelstein e-mail questions
that he would then answer publicly on his blog, a solution for which
Vogelstein had even less enthusiasm.

Photosynth Demo

I'm sure some of you have heard about this but I thought it was too cool not to post.

Using photos of oft-snapped subjects (like Notre Dame) scraped from
around the Web, Photosynth creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces
with zoom and navigation features that outstrip all expectation. Its
architect, blaise aguera y arcas,
shows it off in this standing-ovation demo. Curious about that speck in
corner? Dive into a freefall and watch as the speck becomes a gargoyle.
With an unpleasant grimace. and an ant-sized chip in its lower left
molar. "Perhaps the most amazing demo I've seen this year," wrote Ethan
Zuckerman, after TED2007. Indeed, Photosynth might utterly transform
the way we manipulate and experience digital images.

Kinetic Results is Now Dexterity Media
Interactive Firm Undergoes Transformation to Reflect Expansion, Market Changes

Dallas, TX. (March 27, 2007) – In response to the overwhelming popularity of their expanded media offerings, the partners of Kinetic Results, LLC have announced that the public facing image of their interactive firm will now be known as Dexterity Media.

“We chose this new identity to better reflect the directions we are moving in as a company,“ said Giovanni Gallucci, COO of Dexterity Media. “With forays into social media and other emerging markets, we wanted a name that identified us as flexible, nimble and ready to adapt. We will always be leaders in Search Engine advertising, but this name allows us to expand.”

“In addition to our podcast portal Media Swamp , we’ve also created a social media tracking site called SocialTrackr , a social networking resource directory that allows users to register their blogs, podcasts, vidcasts, etc, making them easier to find for users of similar interests,” said Gallucci, “We’ve also launched a blog called The agency blog , which will be a team effort, without the ‘rah-rah’ company bias.”

“Expect more exciting announcements from us in the near future regarding other entities and services we plan to unveil,” said Wright, Vice President of Client Services for Dexterity Media. “We are very excited about moving forward with this brand. This represents a new chapter in our growth in the interactive marketing space.”

Kinetic Results Now Dexterity Media

Dallas-based search and social media marketing firm Kinetic Results has rebranded itself as DexterityMedia, and founding partner Kevin Ryan has left the company.

"We've been working for the last year or so on ways to promote social media, and we think we've got the formula down now," Tony Wright, Dexterity's VP of client services, told SEW. "We've had tremendous demand for these services, and we wanted our name to more closely reflect what we do."

Kinetic, itself founded amidst an exodus from Zunch Communications in October 2005, has shuffled execs once more. Ryan's departure is not directly related to the name change, which was in the works prior to his decision to leave, Wright said. The team at Dexterity is now made up of Giovanni Gallucci, president & COO; Tony Wright, VP of client services; David J. Wilkie, VP of creative; and anthony Zapata, VP of client strategy.

Over the past year, Dexterity has built up a podcast network, Media Swamp, as well as a social media optimization planner, which helps clients create a framework for social media marketing. Those services will continue to grow under the new direction of the company, without giving up on its search marketing practice, Wright said. all contracts with existing clients will be maintained, he said.

"We'll definitely continue to offer search marketing services. We think social media dovetails nicely with search offerings," he said.
